Solange Knowles shows support for Pretoria Girls High student

Johannesburg – The news of a protest against racism at Pretoria Girls High School has spread far across the boarders of South Africa, garnering reactions from not only international news agencies, but international celebrities too.

On Monday students at the school spoke out against their code of conduct which reportedly instructed them to straighten their natural hair.

Local stars like Bokang Montjane and Samkelo Ndlovu showed support to 13-year-old Zulaikha Patel who was at the forefront of the protest.

Dear Beautiful Brown Skinned Girl: Own your crown and wear it with pride!!! They can't handle the power that comes with you loving who and what you are, they will try and kill your confidence, make you believe it's ok to be black but don't be too black, that your crown is too black for society, workplace and even the school environment, don't let them make you feel inferior. YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL, YOU ARE GORGEOUS, YOU ARE FABULOUS AND OH YOU ARE PERFECT!!!Take pride in your blackness, all of it and still I say WEAR THAT CROWN WITH PRIDE!!! Oh I can't wait to have a daughter someday there's so much I want to teach her... I am so proud of these young girls RISE AFRICAN DAUGHTER RISE!!!

On Wednesday American singer Solange Knowles, sister to Beyonce, also weighed in on the matter, tweeting, “I think you are super rad #ZulaikhaPatel. Go on w ya baaaad self.”
