The Bachelor SA host Jason Greer has partnered with Nutriwell, offering families across the country food security during the nationwide lockdown.
With the initial 21-day lockdown, to curb the spread of Covid-19, extended to the end of April, many households across South Africa have experienced a loss of income and are struggling make ends meet.
To offer some relief and provide families with nutritious meals, Jason and his friends are crowdfunding to raise, R150 000 to feed approximately 200 families (2 adults and 2 children).
About why he decided to work partner with Nutriwell, Jason says: "This cause is so important to me because it's a basic human right to have food. In South Africa alone, close to 18 million people are going hungry every day."
Each pack provides an estimated 120 adult meals and costs R251 per pack. This is enough to feed one adult for a month or two children.
"Food is the quintessential supplement to having a healthy body and mind to learn, educate, grow, ward off disease and to be an asset to society and the economy. Not only do we need to have a fed nation, but a healthy nation," says Jason.
And what makes the meal packs great, is that it can be prepared simply and quickly and only require hot water. Those who have access to fresh vegetables or meat can bulk up with fresh produce.
Jason explains that with the on-going coronavirus threat it is more important than ever to feed our bodies with healthy and nutritious foods.
As lockdown continues to restrict our movements and impact families' income, access to the "right" kind of food has become a challenge.
Jason offers a message of hope to South Africans, saying: We're an incredibly strong nation but we cannot ignore the situation we're faced with. We need to keep our social distancing and before we know it, this will all be over. This shall pass. It will."
Currently, the campaign has raised under R140 000 and is still R60 000 short of their target - which only marks the beginning of their drive, says Jason.
