The Philippines' Janjep Carlos crowned Mr Gay World 2019

Cape Town - 41-year-old Janjep Carlos from the Philippines competed against 21 delegates from around the globe, ultimately securing the title of Mr Gay World 2019.

Mr Gay World was once again hosted in South Africa, for the fourth time in the organisation's 11-year history.

Former Expresso presenter Ewan Strydom hosted the night's proceedings, and US boy band 5West, as well as local artist Tamara Dey, kept the audience entertained throughout the night.

Not only did the 22 contestants from all over the world amaze the audience with their costumes and on stage presence, but the delegates also used the pageant as a platform to voice their opinions on issues such as homophobia, inclusion, equality, racism, and gender identity.

Janjep, who lives in General Trias, just south of the Capital city Manilla, competed in Mr Gay World Philippines twice, before walking away with the title last year - it was all worth the wait!

An early crowd favourite, Janjep also walked away with two other titles including Best in National Costume and Best in Written Exam.

Through his platform, Janjep will continue to tackle mental health awareness as his social cause and work towards turning the illness into wellness.
