5 local actors who started out as social media influencers

Cape Town - With the digital age and ever evolving technology, many jobs have had a couple of facelifts – even the process of getting some jobs and gigs has changed quite a bit.
Social media is a platform for everyone to create what they wish. While some of us use it for purely social purposes, others use it to create their brands and build strong careers.
This has become so popular in recent years influencers have transitioned to acting sometimes with no previous acting experience.
We compiled a list of 5 South African influencers whose influence landed them big acting jobs.
1. Moshe Ndiki
Moshe’s career started on YouTube where he posted videos of him talking about his failed relationships and how broke he was. South Africans found him very relatable and incredibly funny – so much that he ended up with a role on Mzansi Magic’s The Queen as Prince.
Moshe also studied at AFDA so he had previous production experience.
2. Farieda Metsileng
Farieda is a South African actress best known for her starring role as Kandy, a good-hearted girl who is everyone's best friend, in the Mzansi Magic telenovela Isithembiso.
But before that, she was popular for her hilarious skits YouTube and Instagram, under the handle Pharoahfi.
3. Tsakisani Mondlani
Tsakisani is a social media influencer who boasts over 150,000 followers on Instagram.
Apart from being a singer and influencer, Tsakisani is also an actress on the e.tv soapie, Scandal.
4. Tessa Twala
Before Tessa became popular for playing Lexi Thabane on Mzansi Magic’s Zabalaza, she was an Instagram influencer.
5. Thenjiwe Mosely
Thenjiwe is a comedian, MC and actress who rose to fame through her YouTube channel of comedic sketch videos. She made her drama debut in the role of Doris on the Mzansi Magic telenovela The Road, in 2015.
She went on to have a major recurring role as Zodwa in the e.tv drama series Harvest.
