Vogue Australia has named Thuso Mbedu one of eight rising stars from this year's biggest releases.

Their feature includes new faces from releases on Netflix, Hulu, Apple TV and Amazon Prime - to name a few.

Thuso, who joins Jeremy Pope, Taylor Russell and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan on the list, is recognised for her role in The Underground Railroad, set to be released on Amazon Prime.

Based on the astonishing Pulitzer Prize-winning 2016 novel by Colson Whitehead, this TV adaptation by Moonlight director Barry Jenkins is "sure to be as haunting as the book", according to Vogue.

Set in the pre-civil war era of slavery, the 11-episode period drama focuses on the story on Cora, played by Thuso, a slave attempting to escape a horrific reality.

Although, the publication lists Thuso as a "newcomer", the well-known actress was nominated for an International Emmy in 2017 for her portrayal of Winnie in Is'thunzi.

Sharing a screengrab from the insert on Instagram, Thuso wrote: "Things to look forward to."
