Tributes pour in for local hip-hop star ProKid

Cape Town - South African hip-hop artist Linda 'ProKid' Mkhize has died at age 37.

According to a statement released by his family, ProKid suffered a "severe seizure attack" and could not be revived by paramedics on Wednesday.

Following the news of the musician's death Minister of Arts and Culture, Nathi Mthethwa, expressed his sadness on Twitter, writing: "We're deeply saddened by the tragic passing of a lyrical genius, pioneering Hip Hop Artist, Linda Mkhize (Prokid). (sic)"

"Prokid took rapping in African languages to great heights & he will go down as one of the greatest & most influential Hip Hop Artists of his generation, (sic)" he added.

Many fans have taken to social media to pay tribute the the hip hop star, calling him a "legend" and sharing stories of the impact his music had on their lives.
