TV host Leandie du Randt 'saved' by car guards during an attempted mugging

Cape Town - Afrikaans TV personality Leandie du Randt, who fell victim to an attempted mugging on Tuesday, says she was "saved" by two car guards and author Deon Meyer - after she used the self-defense techniques she learnt for the film Jagveld.

Leandie, the host of the weight-loss reality show Slank, shared on social media that muggers, who wanted her cellphone, attacked her while she was leaving 44 Stanley shopping centre.

Two car guards Given and Daniel came running and helped her.

"My Jagveld action training definitely came in handy to put up a fight," she wrote in her Instagram, referencing her role in the Deon Meyer action flick.

"Bless the people who help and protect us and God for His protection and grace - just a warning for us to be extra vigilant," she wrote.

She told Netwerk24 that she was recording a voice note on her cellphone when one man tried to grab it, while she was being followed by another man driving in a slow-moving Kia.

Her defence training from Jagveld kicked in, and she reportedly used the man's momentum to throw him over her shoulder onto the ground. They both hit the ground, and he again tried to grab her cellphone.

The two screaming car guards came running to her aid and attacked the man. The assailant and his accomplice then fled the scene.
