A statement from the SABC:
"The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has noted with concern the new developments regarding a reported positive case of COVID-19 involving an employee based in its Durban Office.
The confirmation for the positive test result that was reported yesterday (Tuesday), was based on the official lab results presented to the employee. The employee has since been alerted by the lab in question that an error occurred during the initial testing and the employee was presented with new test results, whose outcome was negative.
The SABC can confirm that the Corporation is in possession of both tests results. It must be noted that as per the norm, the Corporation has duly followed and adhered to all the internal protocols prior to confirming the case.
This latest reported case has had a serious impact on the organization, including the temporary closure of the Durban office and some staff members urgently having to undergo testing.
The office will resume its normal operations on Friday, 29 May 2020.Nonetheless, the SABC has noted with appreciation the messages of support and encouragement received by the concerned employee at the time when the test result was assumed to be positive."
Ukhozi FM presenter Tshatha Ngobe said on Wednesday that he tested positive for Covid-19.
Tshatha shared the news on-air, saying: "I wish to inform Ukhozi listeners that I have been working from home. As you would know, on Tuesday, I posted a video of myself taking on Instagram getting tested for the virus. The test came out positive."
The SABC confirmed a Covid-19 case at its KwaZulu-Natal office on Tuesday.
"The affected employee has been working on-site since the lockdown and is now under quarantine while being closely monitored," its acting spokesperson Mmoni Seapolelo told News24.
The office has been closed for decontamination and will reopen on 1 June.
"[But] I wish to inform you that I'm not feeling sick, I don't have any symptoms," Tshatha went on to say.
He explained that he took the test because he was expected to attend "something" at the start of June, and it was a requirement that he get tested for Covid-19.
"I was not feeling sick at all; what I have learnt from this is that we can all assume that we are healthy only to find that we are not. I would encourage everyone to test. I want to ask everyone not to panic, I am fine, I'm just at home," he added.
