University of the Western Cape refuses application for event linked to Mampintsha

Johannesburg – The University of the Western Cape on Wednesday issued a statement to the press revealing that they have declined an application by Mampintsha's company West Ink Records to use their stadium for an event which was to be held on 4 May 2019.

This comes after a video surfaced on Monday morning in which a Mampintsha can allegedly be seen physically abusing his long-term girlfriend Bongekile Simelane, famously known as Babes Wodumo.

"The event application, by West Ink Production to use the University's Sports Stadium was under consideration by the relevant structures on campus. However, developments at the weekend have put the application in a different light. A charge of assault has been laid against Mandla Maphumulo, also known as Mampintsha. While the University respects due process and the rule of law, it cannot in good conscience allow an event to take place on its campus involving an individual who has been implicated in an incident of gender based violence," the statement reads.

Babes has since opened a case against Mampintsha who appeared in the Pinetown Magistrate's Court on Tuesday and was granted bail of R2 000.
