Cape Town - Beauty queen, actress and mom Gail Mabalane sat down with Anele Mdoda to tell her story.
It starts in a small town and culminates in the big lights of South African show business in Johannesburg.
Mabalane explained how she started in beauty pageants in Kimberley, was voted Miss Kaizer Chiefs in 2001, then auditioned for Idols SA, got on the show and eventually got voted off after making it to the top 10.
From there Gail got cast on M-Net’s show The Wild, although she says that she isn’t always able to enjoy seeing herself on screen, as she told Anele, “I watch some of those episodes and I cringe.”
About being a working mom to her daughter Zoe, Gail said, “When she was two months old I went back to work and some people were judgemental…I wanted to show her that you can have it all.”
Anele then delved into the hardships Mabalane has faced in her life. The star has lost her mother, her brother and her father but seems to have dealt with it well saying, “…I kept getting up, but I think every now and then you have to just touch base with yourself.”
