WATCH: SA's top comedians step out in style at the Savanna Comics' Choice Awards

Johannesburg – SA's top comedians put their best foot forward on the yellow carpet at this year's Savanna Comics' Choice Awards on Saturday.

Gold Reef City was buzzing ahead of the show, with the likes of Chris Forrest, Tsitsi Chiumya, and Nina Hastie dressed to the nines as they posed for the camera with dozens of fans watching from the sidelines.

Speaking to Channel24 about the importance of the awards for the comedy industry in South Africa, Nina Hastie admits that as much as the awards are about having fun, it's also about having a platform that recognises the great comedic talent in the country.

"Without solidarity, there cannot be growth or any kind of movement, so it's important for us all to be on one stage together appreciating each other, seeing what else is out there. It's the ninth year of Comic Choice, and I've been there since day one. It's just so nice for us all to sort of get up, get together, get dressed up, take photos, watch the show – the production quality is always excellent. And it's important that we have a recognised industry so that when we go to the taxman and say, 'I'm a comedian for a living', or we go to our bank and say we want a loan, it's a real thing."

Big winners on the night included Soli Philander, who walked away with the Litetime Achievement Award, Celeste Ntuli, who was the only comedian two claim two prizes (the Flying Solo Award and the Comedy G Award), and Loyiso Gola who was name Comic of the Year.
