Johannesburg – Chatting to the audience in one of his Between The Scenes clips, Trevor Noah recalled the first time he ever heard a joke as a child, and the impact it had on him.
The comedian told the story of the day he watched his grandfather defuse tension between himself and a policeman at a riot during Apartheid South Africa with the help of a joke.
Trevor says it was in that moment he realised the power of comedy: “It was my first time seeing how a joke can defuse tension. I just remember growing up I was like, I want to do that thing. I want to do that more.”
