We ask 5 local comedians 1 question

Cape Town -  Jason Goliath, John Vlismas, Joey Rasdien, Stuart Taylor and Tumi Morake will all take to the stage on Saturday, 13 October at the Grand Arena, Grand West to get the crowd laughing with their Big 5 comedy show.

Local DJ Ready D will join them on the night to spin the decks in what founder and comedian Stuart Taylor says: “is as rare spotting the Big 5 itself”.

He elaborated: “Seeing a lineup of comics of this calibre performing together is extraordinary and is also made up of comics with diverse performance styles - ensuring that there is truly something for everyone.”

HOW THE COMEDIC BIG 5 STARTED THEIR LAUGH SAFARI:

The show, which was founded in 2016, has since then grown in leaps and bounds. “For the event in October, you don’t only get 5 big names on 1 big stage, but we’re also creating an experience second to none. A beautiful set, an award-winning lighting designer and an award-winning DJ all work together to create a show that is world class and uniquely South African,” states Taylor.

CHANNEL24 ASKED THE COMEDIANS HOW THEY WOULD DESCRIBE THEIR HOME COUNTRY TO AN ALIEN THAT HAS JUST LANDED - AND HERE ARE THEIR HILARIOUS ANSWERS:

JOEY RASDIEN

Ours is a country full of history. No one really knows who were the first people to inhabit this wonderful place of ours.
Some say it was the Coelacanth that walked out the sea.
Some say it was homos naledi.
Some say it was YOUR kind.
Which leads me to the question. What are you doing here?
It is because we are the warmest people in the world?
Is it because we always see the bright side of a problem?
Is it because we are solution-driven people despite the challenges we face?
Or is it the gold? Diamonds? Platinum? Land?

JOHN VLISMAS

I come from a country where the ministers of health die regularly.
We have presidents who are against corruption who have stolen so much that there is nothing left to steal.
Our police actually do the crime in order to cut down in costs.
We have wonderful, wonderful cities where you can buy a closet with an attached toilet for R26 million, but there’s no water.
This is the beauty of where I live.

What we have to offer is beer, braai, babes and the Big 5!
South Africa is by far the best country in the world.
Oh, and you can also buy anything at the robots.
Yes, robots! They’re everywhere!

The country I’m from - it doesn’t have a name, but instead sounds more like a direction…even though the pessimists say it lacks direction.
We speak 11 official languages and we are masters of none - just ask anyone what “now-now” means.
We love to fight and we love to laugh.
When we watch a comedy - or the parliament channel - we all laugh together.

It is breathtakingly beautiful, heartbreakingly warm and the food…oh, the wonderful food! We are a melting pot of every culture under the sun, so rest assured - you’ll fit right in!
