Remember those "SMS LOVE" pop-ups that would appear on your TV screen back in the day?

We can finally put a face to one of the voiceover artists, and her name is Siphathisene (Spha) Mdlalose.

Speaking to YOU magazine, the 30-year-old who’s originally from Durban, revealed she did voiceover work starting in 2012 while she was a student in Cape Town, studying a degree in jazz vocal performance.

It was during this period that she landed the famous 31314 subscription gig.

"I was recommended to someone who owned a studio and needed singers to record covers for ringtones," she explained.

"The studio started getting requests for voiceovers and they asked me to try some. The client loved my voice and delivery."

Taking to her Twitter page, Spha also shared a thread with her followers detailing how she became the voice behind several of the on-screen TV subscription ads.

Still don’t believe it?

Spha now lives in Johannesburg and even though she still does voiceover work, she spends most of her time being a full-time musician promoting her debut album Indlel’eyekhaya

"It’s very much a personal project where I talk about themes like love, family and the idea of home," she said, referring to her album which was inspired by her life experience and which can be streamed across all digital platforms.

To date Spha has performed alongside notable artists like Micasa, Yvonne Chaka Chaka and Monique Bingham to list a few.

"I also host my own radio show on an online radio station called Jazzuary. The show is called the Arts Lounge and it airs every Thursday between 12 and 3pm," she added.
