Zakes Bantwini says SA musos could learn something from Nigerian artists

Johannesburg – Local star Zakes Bantwini has something to get off his chest, and it’s about the lack of support he says South African artists show each other.

The star posted a video on Twitter titling it: “Public Service Announcement: To SA Music Industry: here are my thoughts about Nigerian musicians, let this sink in.”

In the clip Zakes speaks about the support Nigerian artists show when a fellow musician drops a new single or album, saying: “I think if there’s one thing you need to learn about Nigerian artists, and Nigerian musicians, and Nigeria as a country, it’s that they support each other.”

He added that even when artist from Nigeria don't get along, they still support one another. Something which he says does not happen in SA: “Some of them don’t get along, they don’t even talk to each other, but on the day of anybody’s release they will all post and say so and so has a single out, so and so has an album out. In South Africa you will never see that happen unless you are, for lack of a better word, fucking with a certain group or a certain clique.”
