Cape Town - Zodwa Wabantu is unapologetic after ripping a fan’s weave off on Sunday. The racy entertainer was the last performance of the night at Moriting Park in Tembisa.

Zodwa was into her second song when an unnamed young female fan threw a cup at her. After throwing the cup back, Zodwa exchanged harsh words before ripping off the girl’s weave. She then showed the fake hair off on stage before tossing it into the crowd for the owner to find.

“I was serious because there was no way I would call security. I am not like that, I express myself and I act by myself,” she told DRUM. “I’m a big girl. I get booked because they know it’s going to be fun, I pull the crowd.”

Popular acts such as Heavy K before her received no trouble from the crowd, but Zodwa feels fans may take advantage because of how open she is with them.

“I don’t know, maybe drama follows me, you know? In my entertainment fans tell me what to do, saying ‘take off the panty’. It’s always something different with me because I make fans go crazy – I make them kick and understand why they are here, I make them feel free,” she says.

“So maybe the fan was excited or maybe the fan hates me, I don’t know.”

But after throwing the fan’s wig into the crowd, Zodwa remains unapologetic, saying what happens on the streets stays on the streets.

“You know, I will never go to bed [and] take out what happened on the streets. That’s why I make sure what happens on the streets stays on the streets,” she says. “I don’t want to take negativity to my space or home. So anything I’m dealing with, whether it’s workwise or whatever, I deal with it there.”

Zodwa later took to Instagram, saying the event organisers treated her like “a real Kasi queen” and women should hate her but not “act on that hate”.
