Six months after launching her perfume range, Touchable Day and Touchable Night, media personality Zodwa Wabantu has added petroleum jelly and red lipstick to her cosmetics range.

The star took to Instagram to share with fans the new products.

"This is Us my People Zodwa Wabantu. Thank you for the great support in Everything I Do?????????? Let's welcome our Empire Beauty Collection. I'm Poor Now,Give me 10 years Ungangijahi. England UK ???? Team," she wrote.

Zodwa says the people who looked down on her, called her ugly and thought she would never amount to anything are the same people who inspired her to launch her beauty products.

"I wanted to show the people [who] thought I wouldn't be anything, that I can actually buy the whole empire if I wanted too," she says.

And she also wanted to show them that just because she doesn't fit the standards of what a beautiful woman is, it doesn't mean she doesn't understand what makes women feel beautiful. "I also understand that using certain beauty items is what a lot of women need to enhance their beauty or their confidence."

The star said she went for petroleum jelly because it is something she's a fan of, but at the same time she wanted something that is used on a daily basis, not expensive and can be used by people from all walks of life.

"Everyone can afford and uses petroleum jelly, whether you are poor or rich at some point in time you also use it, any household has petroleum jelly. And petroleum jelly is more natural, more affordable and anybody can be able to buy it – an old grandmother, when she has cracks on her feet or hands, she applies it; babies use it anywhere it fits. I went for something that I understand, and aware that most households use [it],” she tells Move!.

Zodwa mentioned that she got a lot of backlash from social-media users comparing her petroleum jelly to Vaseline. "On Twitter, people were saying Unilever will come for me and they will sue me, however, I am not allowing what they are saying [to] get to me because me and my team checked all these things."

Like with her lipstick, she says she created all these products to show women that she understands them, she loves them and is here to help – even though many of them called her names, said she was ugly and did not understand her, she still wants to cater for them.

"I felt that they must understand that I am one of them and we are all women and if they want to enhance their beauty, I am here to help them do so. And I love them whether they think I am not like them or do the things that they do, I respect them, I choose them, it's a women thing," she says.

The lipstick is called Exotic Red because Zodwa likes the "powerful statement" a red pout makes. "I like the powerful statement that the red lipstick has, and I want to embrace the power of a woman who is wearing red lipstick and the stigma that has come with wearing such a red. I even picked the word 'exotic red' for my lipstick colour because of the powerful meaning of exotic. If you can look it up, it stands for a strong woman who knows what she wants and doesn't back off."

Speaking to DRUM recently, the socialite mentioned that she has been in lockdown with her partner, Vusi Buthelezi. However, Vusi did leave to go home after Zodwa's house was burgled. And even though several publications have speculated that the pair has broken up, Zodwa tells Move!: "We are good and are actually seeing each other later today."
