Cape Town - Entertainer Zodwa Wabantu had to defend herself and her job recently after a pastor implied that she should not be allowed to perform with gospel artists at an upcoming event in Eswatini.

Zodwa was booked to perform at the Baceth Music Festival which will take place on 3 August 2019. She along with artists such as: Ncandweni Christ Ambassadors, Mduduzi Nezinceku Zamagawugawu, Bishop Macaluve, DJ Tira, Babes Wodumo and other artists were booked for the event.

When the poster was released it did draw a lot of confusion because of its odd mix of religious and secular artists.

However, it was Bishop Samson Hlatshwayo who made comment about this not being right in his opinion.

Speaking to the Times of Swaziland about Zodwa Wabantu specifically, the Bishop reportedly said: "We will not say anything, but the organisers should be careful. You cannot mix the gospel with worldly things."

Zodwa Wabantu immediately took offense to the comment and took to her Instagram page to make it clear that she was going to perform at the Baceth Music Festival in Eswatini regardless of the pastor’s thoughts.

"So I’m booked in an event that will have a bishop!!! Is it my problem???" the caption on her Instagram page read.

"Gospel artists are paid, just like me, by the promoters and they can refuse money if they want. I will be there, no matter what he says. He must go to church and let people pay him in tithe and leave us to make our money," Zodwa wrote.

"You also have your own demons. Let’s pray as a nation and not judge each other," Zodwa wrote closing off her Instagram caption.

According to Sowetan Live, the Baceth Music Festival spokesperson Mduduzi Mabuza said that, "The event will go ahead as we have advertised and all the artists who was booked will perform, including Zodwa. Whoever is booked but is not comfortable with Zodwa performing can withdraw themselves from the festival."
