Johannesburg – Freshlyground singer Zolani Mahola has called on fans to join her as she unplugs from technology on World Sleep Day.
The muso joined the JOMO (Joy Of Missing Out) campaign which was launched by The Westin Cape Town for World Sleep Day on Friday 15 March. As part of the campaign people have been encouraged to take a break from all technology in the name of a good night's sleep.
"Devices have been linked to poor sleep quality, as the blue light in most screens delays the body's circadian rhythm. In addition, the constant demands of returning calls and sending emails, along with various notifications from apps on your device, can affect your ability to 'switch off' before bed," a press statement explains.
As part of the campaign Zolani will be taking time off from her busy schedule to relax at The Westin Cape Town and experience a "device-free" day. The singer will be testing the hotel's signature Heavenly Bed which will be set up in the foyer all in a bid to create awareness around the importance sleep plays in a healthy lifestyle.
Aside from taking this device-free pledge herself, Zolani has also called on fans to do the same by adding some distance between themselves and their devices and enjoying some me-time for the day.
