Nonhle Ndala's image makeover

Johannesburg - It's no secret that Nonhle Ndala has received more than her fair share of criticism since the airing of reality show, Diski Divas.

While Nonhle enjoyed a moderate public profile, her racial slurs towards Wendy Parker, showing off her expensive gifts from beau Andile Jali on social media and their subsequent marriage and news of a baby on the way has thrust Nonhle into the limelight.

But it hasn't all been good. In fact, it's quite the opposite: Nonhle has been labelled racist, bitchy, jealous, superficial and conniving.

Mocking her former co-star on Diski Divas coloured accent certainly did not help matters. And of course, there was that fight that saw two members get fired, while speculation is rife that Nonhle also should've lost her job.

Since the incident however, Nonhle has done an about-turn.

In the most recent episode of the show, she is seen cooing with 'friend' and co-star, Gigi Pule. The two ladies are out at a bakery when they make rather pretty (and obvs scripted) comments about each other.

Take for example when Gigi talks about Nonhle's rock. "If I had a ring like that I'd be telling everyone. But Nonhle isn't like that. She doesn't care." Oh. Okay. We seem to remember her bragging about an expensive bag recently, but maybe that was different.

Then Nonhle goes on about a party she had that was filled with "beautiful, intelligent and honest" woman. Having a dig at your former reality stars perhaps? "Nonhle does think she is better than Wendy. She sees her as beneath her. That's why she used to mock her. She wasn't being a bitch. She genuinely felt like that," a source close to Nonhle tells us.

Although Nonhle is having a dig here and there, to be fair, we have to admit that she is a lot... nicer. "When the whole fight happened she sat down with Bassie (Basetsana Khumalo) who told her about her image. Bassie is all for opinionated woman, but she helped Nonhle to see that there is a way to do things without coming across as a complete bitch," adds another insider.

Clearly Nonhle has taken the advice to heart. Because she's certainly gone from mean girl to nice girl. We guess pregnancy is also a factor. "She knows what is important to her and that's family. She's going to be a mom now and has a new focus."

Well, the true test of a changed character can only really be seen over an extended period of time. So, our verdict is still out.
