The department of correctional services has rubbished reports that Oscar Pistorius can't be fitted with a monitoring device.
This followed reports by the Daily Mail that the convicted paralympian would have to serve his full sentence behind bars as the monitoring device could not be fitted to his ankle.
"The department rejects any notion that attempts to pre-empt any decision that will be taken with respect to the offender concerned, and that will have an impact on his rehabilitation," the department’s spokesperson Manelisi Wolela said yesterday.
The department also urged journalists to be wary of irresponsible reporting and to report news truthfully. Manelisi also explained that regulations state that a 'monitoring device' can be fitted to the ankle or wrist as long as it doesn't cause any risk to a person's health.
Last week, the National Prosecuting Authority filed an appeal against the conviction and sentence.
The appeal will be heard in North Gauteng High Court in December.
