Johannesburg - Viewers of popular SABC 3 soapie, Isidingo, will soon see the demise of beloved gangster kingpin, Georgie "Papa G" Zamdela.
According to Sunday Sun, actor Darlington Michaels, who plays Papa G on the soapie, is leaving the show because he feels he is no longer appreciated by the producers.
"Ek is finished and klaar met daardie mense (I'm done with those people). I had a big problem with them both, financially and emotionally," he told the paper.
"When I was hit by a stroke (in 2013), I didn't get enough support from them financially. I had to pay my own medical bills which amounted to more than R20 000. My loyalty wasn't appreciated," he adds.
He says he's enjoyed himself on the show, but has been living a nightmare the last three years as he's seen his role on the soapie been reduced from main actor to call-actor.
But the show's bosses still hope to work with Papa G in the future.
They told the paper that his character will always have a part on the show. "Georgie will always be part of our world. He is not leaving the show. He is Palesa's father and the king of the underworld and could make a return at any point to ruffle feathers and cause trouble."
It sounds like the only feathers Papa G wants to ruffle now is at the Isidingo studios.
