Johannesburg -  Thembsie Matu has overcome a lot to fulfill her dream of making it on TV.

Talking to Move the actress, who plays the role of Sis Bee on soapie Rhythm City, reveals people, and one woman in particular, used to tell her that she would never make it in the industry.

“I love this lady. Because of her I have a fighting spirit and a thicker skin,” the 50-year-old mother of two says.

“One thing I have learned in this industry is to never let anyone tell me that I can’t make it, and I have been told this many times before. People in the industry like to close doors for others, but I believe if you work on your craft, there is no way you can’t succeed,” she adds.

She says the woman often used to talk smack about her and would often steal her roles in plays and she would sometimes only be paid R10 every three months for her acting worko But that the experience was one that allowed her to grow as an individual.

She says her goal now is to take the next step in her career and become a permanent cast member on the soap.

“I’m tired of only getting called when I’m needed. Being made part of the cast can mean that I would be able to get myself a decent house - a permanent place to stay."
