Johannesburg - Music legend, Ringo Madlingozi, has come out in defence of his son, saying the criticisms directed at him were mischievous.
Ringo's son, Phila, has caused a national debate ever since it was revealed that the top 16 Idol contestant is the son of the famous Sondela hitmaker.
Some Idols fans have taken to social media to suggest that the judges only chose Phila because of his famous dad, with others even speculating that money may have changed hands between the judges and Ringo.
But Ringo has come out to defend his son and his talents.
He told Sowetan: "I felt that it was just not right that people rubbish him like that. I could sense that some just hated him. But he took the criticism positively because he did not entertain them."
Ringo admits that his son may not be the best singer in the competition, but says that he has an undeniable talent that could mature as he continues in the competition.
Do you think Phila deserves his spot in the competition?
