Johannesburg - Legendary musician Sipho 'Hotstix' Mabuse is reportedly set to appear in court on Wednesday in connection with charges of assault and kidnapping.

Daily Sun is reporting that Hotstix took the law into his own hands after catching two people stealing from him.

It's believed that two men stole a battery from the musician. The newspaper reports that the two men often do work for him. But after he found out that they had stolen from him, he put one in the boot of his car and apparently beat him. The other person was brought to his house later that night and was also allegedly beaten.

It's believed that Sipho has handed himself over to police. However, he insists that he did not use a hammer or gun to beat the men. He says that when he threatened to call the cops, they pleaded with him to rather beat them as they were already wanted on outstanding arrest warrants.

"I can't do that. They are my children. I think because they knew where I put the battery, it was their intention to take it and resell it," he told the paper.

Police spokesperson Lungelo Dlamini has confirmed that the incident took place and that Sipho is set to appear in court on Wednesday.
