Johannesburg – Veteran actress, Sthandiwe Kgoroge, has voiced her concern over the social media storm which attacked Unathi Msengana this week, and which saw the Metro FM DJ suspended.
Metro FM morning DJ, Unathi was the subject of abuse after Twitter attacked her over several comments she made on her radio show about controversial documentary, Lusiter (read more about that here).
The situation was made worse when Unathi apparently attacked a Twitter follower, calling her a "pscyho b**tch" (read more about that here).
The controversy has seen Unathi suspended (read more here) and the entertainment industry rocked.
Talking to The Juice, industry veteran and activist, Sthandiwe Kgoroge says she is upset by what she’s heard about the situation in Stellenbosch, detailed in Luister.
“I haven’t seen it yet, but from what I’ve heard, I think if that’s really what’s happening in a country that is 21 years old in a democracy, especially on a university campus, that is sad. It can’t be that racial issues are tip toed around. We really need to start addressing issues and stop acting like everything is fine," she says.
But Sthandiwe maintains that no matter what people feel about Unathi’s comments on the issue, they cannot crucify her for having an opinion.
“I’m shocked. I thought we were a country where we could speak out and say what we think. That is the beauty of a democracy,” she says.
