A new series called Taxi Brooklyn will be making its debut on DSTV's Universal Channel this month.
The police action comedy stars former Grey's Anatomy actress Chyler Leigh and actor Jacky Ido. The show is based on popular movie franchise Taxi, written by Luc Besson.
We had a chat with Jacky, who described being on the show as "being at the right place at the right place". He told The Juice: "I wanted to get involved in a TV show and I was putting it out to the universe. I wanted to explore other characters. When I read the material I thought 'I would love to do this character'. I thought it was fun and something I wanted to do. I felt I was at the right place. You seldom find yourself where you want to be. It was for me."
Jacky plays a cab driver named Leo, who's a streetwise immigrant. On whether he had a difficult time playing a cab driver, he laughed and said: "The challenging thing is that I had to act like I'm a great driver."
The actor then pointed out that he has different personal cab experiences, which sort of make playing the character not so difficult. "Every time I travel to a city I always walk around or take a cab. That's how I go around. I have different stories from New York, Paris and other places. Cab drivers are like the psychiatrists of the road. You get to meet a lot of people and it is easy to engage with people because you'd probably never see them again. I think I make a great cab driver, but we never see that on the show," he said.
Watch Taxi Brooklyn in Universal Channel on Monday, 15 September at 8:50pm.
