Johannesburg - It's interesting to look back and realise how far you've come in life. How the the things you stressed about, or thought were important at 16, are sometimes not the things you worry about today.
In honour of Youth Day and Youth Month, some of 5FM's biggest DJs decided to share their letters to their 16 year old self.
Although all of the letters we've seen have been heartwarming and often very funny, it was a letter Thando Thabethe wrote to her 16-year-old self that really had us choking on our tears.
Read it below:
It would have been three years since my father had passed away from suicide, when I was 16, and it was something I was battling with.
I would tell the 16 year old me it's not your fault. It's got nothing to do with you. It's bigger than you.
I would tell the 16 year old me to believe in the power of your dreams . She knew that though. She knew to believe in her dreams.
I would tell the 16 year old me to relax with the whole falling in love thing. That it would come when the time was right. That the time was not right then.
But I would tell her that it's okay to hurt, that it's okay to learn, because God doesn't give you an obstacle you can't get over .
I would tell the 16 year old me that every single one of her dreams would come true, if you just keep going.
I would tell the 16 year old me that you are a thought leader. That you would be greater than you ever imagined.
That your name is Thando Thabethe!
- That is what I would tell the 16 year old me!
Here's a tissue...
