The year of Oscar Pistorius

In the past two years Oscar Pistorius went from hero to zero in the eyes of many South Africans.

Fans across the world were rocked by the news that the former Blade Runner had shot and killed his model girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on 14 February, 2013.

Oscar's lengthy court case lasted more than ten months and had the entire world watching our judicial system like hawks.

Apart from the shooting, Oscar found himself embroiled in more drama when he got into a fight at a popular nightclub, where he allegedly threatened a fellow club-goer. Oscar also allegedly boasted about his family being well-connected and that he could "take a piss" on President Zuma if he wanted to.

Oscar's fate was finally handed down to him on 21 October, when he was sentenced to five years in prison for Culpable Homicide.

But that was not the end of the battle, shortly before the year came to an end, the state was granted a leave to appeal Oscar's conviction.

If the state wins the appeal Oscar could face jail time for a minimum of 15 years.
