Trevor Noah is laughing all the way to the bank

Johannesburg - He might be getting lots of backlash regarding previous tweets, but there's no doubt that Trevor Noah will be making lots of cash once his final deal as the new host of The Daily Show is finalised.

Comedy Central this week announced that Trevor would be taking over from Jon Stewart as the host, sparking both celebration and disgust across the globe.

Many supporters threw their weight behind the comedian, while others dug up controversial tweets from way back in 2012.

While Trevor responded to the backlash, saying judgement on previous tweets is premature, his appointment will no doubt make him one of the highest earning SA comedians.

According to reports, Jon Stewart was earning between $25m to $35m a year - making him the highest paid late-night TV star. Others include David Letterman, who was earning an estimated $20m a year while Conan O'Brien, Chelsea Handler and Jimmy Fallon all earned between $10m and $12m.

Now, while it's believed that Trevor won't be getting as much as Jon Stewart, or even the other late night hosts for that matter, rumour has it he will be in the early million mark. And we're talking dollars people, dollars.

Sjoe. Champers on Trevor!
