Will Jon Savage's flick actually happen?

Remember the Indie film project Stone Cold Jane Austen? Well, the brainchild of musician Jon Savage, which will star the likes of  Rob Van Veeren, The Parlotones, Jack Parow, Randall Abrahams and Kurt Darren, is now in pre-production phase and it's hit the usual hiccup - budget.

The entire film, about a fictitious band who want to make it big on the SA rock scene, is being financed through donations on Internet crowd funding site, Indiegogo and so the budget for the film is very basic.

That's something the film's creator, Jon Savage, acknowledges in a video diary he posted on Youtube recently. " With a budget like this... I'm writing the script because a script writer costs a R100 000 or more. I've had to hire (actor and script writer) Louw Venter,"  Jon says. "I've got three sessions with the guy to try fix my script and turn me into a script writer".

With such a small budget, and an inexperienced Jon doing almost everything behind the scenes, questions have been raised about whether the film will ever make it to cinema.

We had our doubts that the movie would make it past the crowd funding stage, but after promising a host of famous names in the cast and managing an entertaining trailer, it seems the film has gained enough attention, and most importantly,  finances to see it enter pre- production.

Is it time to finally get a little excited about watching some of South Africa's most famous faces act goofy in a rock movie film? Or will it crumble to it's knees in filming?
