Basetsana Kumalo on the mend after broken ankle

Johannesburg- Businesswoman Basetsana Kumalo is optimistic about being discharged from hospital after breaking her ankle last week.

Bassie was injured when she slipped and fell in the rain after watching her son perform at a school concert on Thursday night.

The TV producer had to undergo surgery and has been in hospital since then, which also meant she had to pull out as a judge from this past weekend's Miss SA pageant.

Taking to social media, Bassie explained that she broke the left and right hand side of her ankle, and dislocated it in the process. As a result, she will immobile for the next three months.

"The most excruciating pain of my entire existence. I have had two surgeries, first was reduction of the dislocation, second the fixation of the ankle with titanium pings and plates inserted yesterday," Bassie wrote.

She added that this means that she will not be able to drive or fly for the next three months.

"I am hoping to be discharged tomorrow. It's going to be a long journey, prognosis we are looking at 3months! No driving, no flying, lots of physio, learning to walk on crutches. All I know is that this too shall pass! Thank you for the flowers...they brighten my days!," Bassie wrote on Sunday night on social media.

Bassie's hospital room has been filled with flowers from well wishers, which she says has "willed her to a process of healing."

All the best with the recovery, Bassie!

Watching #MissSA2016 on my hospital bed. I had an unfortunate accident on Thursday. I went to watch my son play the piano at his school concert, as we were leaving I slipped in the rain, fell and broke my left and right side of my ankle(medial & lateral malleolus) and dislocated it in the process. The most excruciating pain of my entire existence. I have had two surgeries, first was reduction of the dislocation, second the fixation of the ankle with titanium pins and plates inserted yesterday. I believe everything happens for a reason, it could have been worse! Will be immobile for a while, but I'm so thankful that the hand of God has been with me throughout this journey. Thank you for all your prayers, concern, support and care. I am deeply grateful.
