Johannesburg- Sentencing proceedings in the murder trial of former Jozi FM presenter, DJ Donald Sebolai resumes in the High Court in Palm Ridge on Thursday morning.
The former radio personality was found guilty of murdering his girlfriend, Dolly Tshabalala in their Soweto flat in June 2014. Donald was also found guilty of obstructing justice, but was acquitted on charges of theft.
The court dismissed the former DJ's claims that Dolly was stabbed in self-defence during a fight between them.
When sentencing proceedings got underway on 10 February, various state and defence witnesses took to the stand in mitigation of sentence.
This included Donald's mother, Elizabeth Sebolai-Selekane, who told the court that she was still in shock over his arrest. The court heard from Elizabeth how this is the first time that Donald had been arrested in his life, and that he was never a problematic child.
When Donald took to the stand he sobbed uncontrollably while answering questions posed to him. Donald admitted to the court that he should have done more to save Dolly's life, but was too traumatised when he realised that he was also injured.
Court was adjourned until Thursday to allow both parties more time.
