Dr Malinga on being the next Idols judge

Johannesburg - Ever since M-Net decided to fire former Idols judge, Gareth Cliff, from the popular music show fans have been calling for their favourite celeb to take over. But one name keeps rising to the top: Dr Malinga.

Malinga fans will be excused for dreaming of an Idols judging panel with both Somizi and the kick master, but Malinga laughs off the suggestion.

Talking to The Juice recently, Dr Malinga says: "I'll only take that job if I'm not replacing someone. I'm so familiar with music. It would be a big step but I'm not canvassing for it."

Malinga already has some experience as a judge on a TV music contest, after scoring a gig as a resident judge on e.tv's Turn Up and Dance last year (more on that here), and says that if he was to be an Idols judge "it would be fireworks."

"You saw the va-va voom that Somizi brought to Idols last year? It would be fireworks! it would be very great!" he tells us.

Of course, that was before all of the Idols drama where Gareth is suing the broadcaster for R25m. So Malinga, you may just have to hold off on those dreams...
