Jiva! Our biggest local songs of 2015 - Part 1

Johannesburg – They say music is the soundtrack of life. That may be true, but sometimes the soundtrack can really suck. Luckily for us, 2015 was a bumper year for SA music, with artists across all genres creating music we will probably never forget.

From tracks that spawned viral dance challenges to songs that made us feel all G, there was a sound for anyone. And like Chocolate (or is that chocolat?) everyone has their favourite.

So here’s our top 10 favourite songs of the year, in no particular order:

Chocolat – Mi Casa

Just as we thought Mi Casa had forgotten about us, J’ and the boys released a brand new album. The lead single was the contagious Chocolat that had the whole nation dancing.

ilife - DJ Sliqe

DJ Sliqe followed up his 2014 hit, Do Like I Do, with another instant hit: iLife. The track sees J.R , WTF and Okmalumkoolkat drop some of the best bars they’ve ever produced, all over one of the most contagious beats of the year.

Baddest - AKA

Following the massive success of their hit All Eyes On Me, AKA and Burnaboy once again teamed up for an explosive collaboration, bringing Khuli Chana in on the act. It’s been on heavy rotation on radio and has already spawned a remix.

iMali- Zahara

iMali signaled a return for the troubled singer and what a return it was. Her third album, Country Girl, went platinum within 2 weeks, no doubt helped by the contagious and strangely deep track.

Shumaya - Durban Nyts

The unofficial anthem of 2015, Shumaya had the dance floor filled all year with its catchy beat and sing-along friendly lyrics. It even had umkulus an ugogo showing us their best moves.
