Loyiso Bala defends Ukoluka tradition

Johannesburg - The idea of Ukoluka may have been have come under fire in recent years, but it still has a defender in gospel star, Loyiso Bala.

Loyiso's nephew recently went through the traditional rite of passage, which boys between the ages of 17 and 19 take to become men, and uncle Loyiso was on hand to give him some advice.

But when Loyiso took to Instagram to share the proud moment, he found himself having to defend the practice.

After followers questioned him on why he decided to take snaps of the ritual, Loyiso responded to these comments describing his thoughts on the age-old practice.

Responding to one user, Loyiso said "I understand your sentiment but with all the negativity that is currently being spread around ukoluka, I am countering it in a positive light. Most documentaries and pictures out there are discouraging is from practicing what I still believe is a beautiful practice. Must we keep quiet?"

Tell em, Loyiso!
