Mpho Maboi on Yeye romance: The break helped us grow up

Johannesburg - TV and radio personality, Mpho Maboi has opened up about her relationship with footballer Reneilwe 'Yeye' Letsholonyane, saying their brief break helped them grow stronger.

Mpho and Reneilwe took a break just before the couple were expecting their first child, but within a few months found their way back to each other (more on that here).

Talking to BrightRock TV recently, Mpho opened up about the split, saying they got to a point where they had become "toxic to each other."

“The breakup was a bit hard, because we broke up while I was pregnant with our son at the time. But it had to happen. I think we had got to a point where we were toxic to each other. Where both of you are both unhappy, but you're trying to make things work because there is a child that is about to come into the world. Eventually I had to make the decision that 'listen this is just not working. We will make better parents for this person if we are apart,'" Mpho says.

Mpho says their separation wasn't because the couple had fallen out of love, but rather for the good of their child. When they decided to give it another go, Mpho says they made sure they did it right.

“The second time around everything was conscious. You sit down and you say ‘before we can even decide that we want to get back together let’s first sit down and talk about our issues that we had’. The elephant in the room so to speak, we have to deal with the elephant, otherwise if we are not dealing with the elephant in the room and we decide to continue with this, we are going to have the same problems,” she says.

“Fortunately, we managed to deal with everything and I must say our relationship has been better the second time around,” she adds.
