Musicians give back in a big way

Johannesburg – You often support your favourite musician by buying their music, but it’s a real heart warming moment when they decided to return the favour and give back to their fans, even if it’s just a little bit.

2015 was a year filled with musicians giving back to their community. Here’s just a couple who made us smile.

When Xenophobic attacks spread across our land like a nasty plague, musicians and fans alike rushed to support those displaced. One of the most high profile visits of support to people affected by the attacks was by rapper Cassper Nyovest, who visited a support camp. A few months later he once again showed his golden heart by performing for prisoners in jail.

L’vovo

Musician, L’vovo is a man with a big frame and an even bigger heart. He spent his birthday this year surprising kids at an orphanage in Durban. And what did he do with the birthday cake he received you may ask? Well, he shared it with the kids of course!

Dr Malinga

Malinga is all about the kicks! And so he wanted to make sure that footballers in his hometown of Temba, Hammanskraal could kick along. He donated soccer boots to every young boy on the local soccer team.

Danny K and Kabelo Mabalane

2015 saw another edition of SHOUT, an initiative started by musicians Danny K and Kabelo Mabalane to bring awareness to crime in South Africa. The besties once again got all their friends in the industry to shoot a song and music video, with proceeds going to building libraries in disadvantaged schools.

Shugasmakx

The Skwatta Kamp rapper made a young fan’s birthday by surprising the boy fan with pizza and cake for his whole class at school! And here our moms just normally give us cupcakes to take...
