Johannesburg - Christmas is a time for friends and family to get together and create special and often timeless memories.
And it was no different for Joost van der Westhuizen and his estranged wife Amor Vittone, who spent Christmas together with their kids this year.
A frail looking Joost posed with his children and Amor for Christmas morning snaps, which were later uploaded to social media by Amor.
Amor had taken the kids away to Mauritius for a quick break before Christmas, but they all returned in time to spend the special day with Joost.
It comes after recent reports in YOU magazine which suggest Joost may have signed up to trial a new treatment that could possibly cure his motor neuron disease
According to the magazine, Joost is part of a group of sufferers who have been approved to undergo the treatment on compassionate grounds - all in the hopes that it will allow him to spend many more special days with his family.
Merry Xmas to all. May your heart be filled with love and blessings all year through! pic.twitter.com/2d4h8UT7O2

Joost has been outspoken about his battle with the debilitating disease, saying that he refuses to give up and he'll fight until the end.
