Simphiwe Dana on Ntsiki feud: I'm not letting it go

Johannesburg – Musician Simphiwe Dana says she will not back down from taking legal action against fellow musician, Ntsiki Mazwai.

A Twitter feud between the pair erupted last week, after Ntsiki claimed to have discovered Simphiwe Dana at one of her open mic sessions- a claim that Simphiwe publicly denied.

The disagreement quickly turned ugly with both parties trading blows on social media before coming to a head with Ntsiki posting a series of tweets accusing artists of sleeping their way to the top.

Simphiwe responded to these claims by issuing a statement from her management claiming that she would be taking legal action against Ntsiki for defaming Simphiwe’s character (more on that here).

But Ntsiki was undaunted, issuing her own statement a short time later, wherein she denied that the comments were aimed at Simphiwe.

"Miss Dana responded to tweets which she assumed were about her. The tweets did not have a name on them as a result Miss Mazwai has no idea how Miss Dana came to this conclusion," The statement read in part (more on that here).

But it seems Simphiwe is determined to continue her legal battle against Ntsiki.

“I have taken legal action and I’m not letting it go. That’s all I’m prepared to say on the matter,” Simphiwe told Gareth Cliff on CliffCentral this week.

And even though Ntsiki has indicated that she will not respond to the threats of legal action, Simphiwe says that the court will require Ntsiki to respond.

“She has to respond. She doesn’t have a choice, unfortunately," Simphiwe says.
