Johannesburg - Family and friends of Simba Mhere and Kady-Shay O'Bryan together gathered at the Randburg Magistrates Court as the trial of the man accused of culpable homicide and reckless and negligent driving began.
Simba's father, Joseph, took to the stand to recall his version of events. However, he has previously stated that his memory of certain events is vague as he too was in the car and sustained injuries.
Simba and Kady were en-route to the J&B Met in January this year when the car they were travelling in was hit by another vehicle driven by Preshalin Naidoo.
It was reported that in a statement read by Naidoo's defence team, he is claiming that "due to an unforeseeable mechanical error I lost control of the vehicle."
Attending day one of the trial, Simba's best friend and fellow Top Billing presenter, Jonathan Boynton-Lee says it was 'draining.'
Court resumes tomorrow.
