The year that was for AKA, Zinhle and Bonang

Johannesburg -  Just over three months ago, DJ Zinhle shocked the entire country when she publicly revealed that AKA and Bonang Matheba had allegedly been having an affair.

Let’s rewind a bit…

February

AKA and Zinhle’s relationship has pretty much been an open secret for years now. But the super private couple kept their romance out of the public eye. Until news of her pregnancy emerged. The Juice first broke the news in February, with close sources telling us that she was past the three month mark. There was suddenly an evident change in them, and they became a lot more open especially on social media. Zinhle started sharing the cutest snaps of her growing baby bump.

June

Zinhle and AKA seemed to be the epitome of the perfect couple, who could not wait to welcome their bundle of joy. For the first time in years fans even got to see a snap of AKA and Zinhle together on a movie date. Another snap of AKA kissing Zinhle’s baby bump melted everyone’s hearts.

July

The day everyone was waiting for had finally arrived- Baby K was officially welcomed into the world on 8 July.  At this time Bonang was rumoured to be dating Nigerian star, D'banj. Sources close to Bonang told The Juice that Bonang and D’banj were head-over-heels in love. And, then at the annual MTV Music Africa Awards, Bonang and D’Banj rocked the red carper together and sealed it with a kiss on live television.

August

D’banj confused many people when he posted a snap of his on/off girlfriend Adama Indimi, who he called 'the queen of my heart.' A few weeks,  later Zinhle released a statement confirming her split from AKA.

September

In an emotional post on her blog MomentsbyDJZinhle, she explained that the reason for their split was allegedly because of AKA having an affair with Bonang. Zinhle claimed that AKA admitted to cheating rumours a week before she gave birth to Kairo. At the time, Zinhle wrote that she also wanted any woman going through a hard time to pull strength from her choices. “I want to look back at this moment and be proud of the choices I made as a role model not only for women going through a hard time but for my little Kairo who I hope will pull strength and find courage to choose herself and trust in her own power.” At the time both Bonang and AKA through statements denied the claims.

October/November/December

For weeks Bonang, AKA and Zinhle hogged headlines following Zinhle’s shock announcement. Bonang has remained silent on the allegations. While, AKA barred his soul to fans during a MTV Base Africa interview where he apologised to Zinhle, her fans, his family and her family. Since then Bonang and AKA continue to tease on social media with constant posts about their “mystery baes.”

Zinhle had been focusing on her work and motherhood.
