Unathi speaks out on fat shaming

Johannesburg - In a week when the international entertainment world was rocked by a fat-shaming meme of Hollywood actor Wentworth Miller, Idols judge Unathi has spoken out about her own battles against those who fat shame at the gym.

Posting a snap of an overweight person and the quote: "Making fun of a fat person at the gym is like making fun of a homeless person at a job fair" to her Instagram this week, Unathi ranted about the destructive practice.

Although Unathi's Instagram post may not have been as thought-provoking as Wentworth's emotional response to the memes, wherein he addresses depression and suicide, she admits that she too was a victim of fat shaming.

"Freaken IDIOTS!!!!! It was these very STUPID people who helped me reach my goal! Coz a lot of the time they want you to see that they are laughing. They used to point, snicker, laugh, and even try and take pictures when I would change in the change rooms," Unathi says.

"NOW they ask how I lost 30kgs and as much as I want to respond with 'I did it with great pain whilst you laughed at ME' I try to be a lady about it and share what I can!!!!! FORGIVE THEM! It's so liberating!," She added.
