Princess Diana's brother, Charles Spencer, is opening up about the difficult period both he and his sister went through after their parents' split.
In an interview with The Sunday Times, he said of his parents' John Spencer and Frances Shand Kydd's 1969 divorce: "Diana and I had two older sisters who were away at school, so she and I were very much in it together and I did talk to her about it."
He added: "Our father was a quiet and constant source of love, but our mother wasn't cut out for maternity. Not her fault, she couldn't do it. While she was packing her stuff to leave, she promised Diana she'd come back to see her. Diana used to wait on the doorstep for her, but she never came."
Charles revealed in his interview, he'd been "in and out of therapy for 20 years" and has done "a lot of very profound work on [his] unhappy childhood".
Charles, a historian and author, will release a new book, The White Ship, on 17 September, reports People.
The news comes just as his daughter, Lady Amelia Spencer's Hello! Magazine engagement interview hits shelves. The royal, who grew up in South Africa, is engaged to be married to Greg Mallett.
