Charlize Theron has called being replaced by a young actor for the Mad Max: Fury Road prequel "a little heartbreaking".
In May director George Miller confirmed that a prequel based on Charlize's character, Furiosa, is in the works.
The story will centre on a young Furiosa with the role being recast with a younger actor in her 20s.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the Academy Award winner said the recasting is a "tough one to swallow".
"It's a little heartbreaking, for sure. I really love that character, and I'm so grateful that I had a small part in creating her. She will forever be someone I think of and reflect on fondly."
"Obviously, I would love to see that story continue, and if he feels like he has to go about it this way, then I trust him in that manner," she added.
