Legendary singer Sir Elton John has been honoured by the Royal Mint with his very own coin collection.

The coins feature the singer's iconic glasses which also forms part of a music note, the straw boater hat worn by Elton in his I'm Still Standing music video and a bowtie, all incorporated into the Union Jack. Bradley Morgan Johnson created the design.

"In these strange times, listening to music can be a great tonic. Celebrating 50 top 40 hits and over 300 million albums sold worldwide, our 2020 tribute to The Rocket Man is ready for launch," the Royal Mint wrote on their official Instagram account.

Elton, who recently launched his virtual concert series, said the commemorative coin was a "fabulous honour", according to the BBC

"The last few years have contained some of the most memorable moments of my career, and this is another truly humbling milestone on my journey," he added.

The coins are available on the Royal Mint site, and range from £13 (R278) to £68 865 (R1.4 million) for one of four limited-edition Kilo Gold Proof Coins.
