Popular a cappella group Pentatonix just crushed this cover of The Weeknd's Blinding Lights.
With nothing more than their vocals, the performers are easily able to capture the up-tempo beat of the song. Seriously, it's hard to believe that the sound of every instrument was created with nothing more than their mouths.
Band member, Kevin Olusola, who is known for his "celloboxing" (playing the cello and beatboxing at the same time), says he knew pulling off a song by The Weeknd would be a challenge.
"I'm a huge The Weeknd fan. I think his art is so incredible, introspective. Sonically it's a challenge. And Blinding Lights was going to be an interesting one because a lot of it is just based off of long chords. And usually, our arrangements have a lot of interesting intricacies to it, so I just did not know exactly how we were going to pull it off," he explains in a clip shared on Instagram.
But the group was able to flawlessly pull off the cover -- something Kevin says he is proud of.
"It took some time to arrange that one over Zoom with the band, but I'm so unbelievably proud of how it came out."
The Pentatonix, who shot to fame after winning the third season of a cappella reality competition The Sing-Off, created the video for their cover of Blinding Lights while still practising social distancing.
The cover is available on their new EP, At Home.
