Idris Elba is looking to take Luther from the small screen to the big screen.

The 45-year-old played the maverick detective John Luther in 5 seasons of the popular BBC drama.

For his role Idris won a Golden Globe Award and received four Primetime Emmy nominations for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or Movie.

The final season which aired in 2019 ended on a cliff-hanger with Luther being arrested and the possible death of serial killer Alice Morgan (Ruth Wilson).

In a Zoom Q&A with Sky News about his current show, In The Long Run, the actor teased the return of Luther.

"There isn't a real formal plan for Luther at the moment. I've made it very clear that I'd like to see Luther come back as a film. And I can tell you this, that we are this close to making a film of Luther," said Idris.
