  • Liz Garbus, who directed Harry & Meghan speaks of the "alleged palace mind games" Harry and Meghan endured, and she'd later find out about in her own dealings with them, in a new interview.
  • The series that premiered in December become the streamer's biggest documentary debut.
  • Garbus said the palace was contacted about commenting on the series, but declined, despite what they've since reportedly said.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex's Netflix documentary, Harry & Meghan, has seen roaring success on the streaming platform.

Not only has it become Netflix's biggest documentary debut, it also contributed significantly to the 230 million global subscribers it ended the 2022 year on.

Liz Garbus, who directed the series, however, tells Vanity Fair of the "alleged palace mind games" Harry and Meghan endured, and she'd later find out about in her own dealings with them.

She said:

"For instance, Buckingham Palace said that we didn't reach out for comment [on the docuseries] when we did. They did that to discredit us... and by discrediting us, they can discredit the content of the show."

She added it was "a little bit like Alice Through the Looking Glass".

Numerous reports say the palace declined to comment on Harry & Meghan. They also avoided answering questions about the Duke of Sussex's memoir, Spare, though they were "rattled" by the many revelations.

Harry has since told The Daily Telegraph he left out revelations about his family in his memoir because he didn't "think they would ever forgive [him]". He said he has enough material to write another book focussed on his relationships with Prince William and King Charles III alone.
