FOLLOWING reports that pupils in schools around Lower Crossroads were using drugs, cops took action.
The cops from Philippi East Police Station raided Phandulwazi High School on Tuesday.
Sergeant Mlamli Mlumbi said: “We have pupils attacking each other. Some drop out of school because they fear for their lives.”
And it was all because of the drugs.
Mlumbi said the school search programme was to ensure everyone’s safety.
Mlumbi told pupils they’d be arrested if they brought drugs or weapons on school property.
“Stop using drugs, focus on your schoolwork and respect your teachers. Without education you won’t get anywhere.”
Principal Cynthia Booi didn’t know cops were coming.
“It’s a good thing they searched the pupils. It’s because of the drugs that they attack teachers,” said Booi.
“Our pupils come to school late and it’s difficult to check all of them.”
Booi said a pupil was almost stabbed last week.
“The gang fights happen outside the school premises,” she said.
“The pupils who stabbed our boy are from other schools.”
Parent Neziswa Mavumengwana (46) said kids should be searched regularly.
